Business mission in Toronto reinforces ties between Brazil and Canada and opens new opportunities for the gemstone and jewelry sector.
The recent business mission to Toronto, organized by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) in partnership with the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (BCCC), stood out as a strategic opportunity for Brazil’s gemstone and jewelry sector. Part of the Brazil Week program, the initiative aimed to strengthen economic relations between the two countries and foster promising partnerships.
The participation of the Precious Brazil project — an initiative of the Brazilian Gems and Jewellery Trade Association (IBGM) in partnership with the ApexBrasil — gains relevance in the current context of challenges posed by US tariffs. In this scenario, diversifying export destinations has become a priority, and Canada is emerging as a market of growing interest.
Internationally recognized as a reference in ethical small-scale mining, Canada offers Brazil the opportunity to align with global best practices. IBGM, which has been developing a self-regulation model for small-scale gold mining, sees in this rapprochement a path to reinforce the sector’s commitment to sustainability and responsibility.
Although the volume of Brazilian gemstone and jewelry exports to Canada is still modest, the mission opened doors to new growth prospects. The event promoted direct connections between Precious Brazil and key Canadian agencies supporting internationalization. This dialogue is essential to identify opportunities, build trust-based relationships, and strengthen Brazil’s presence in a market that values innovation, transparency, and sustainable practices.
