Brands are investing in everything from material reuse to professional training in pursuit of a sustainable future.

The demand for sustainability is not just a trend, but a permanent necessity, even in the jewelry sector. As consumers demand greater transparency and responsibility, innovative approaches emerge to promote positive change.

Brands associated with Precious Brazil, an initiative of the Brazilian Gems and Jewellery Trade Assocaition (IBGM) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), are already acting in this direction. But what exactly is sustainable jewelry?

Transparency in the Supply Chain

One of the fundamental pillars of sustainability in jewelry is transparency in the supply chain. And brands can help by sharing detailed information about the origin of their materials, for example.

Material Reuse

Material reuse, also known as upcycling, is gaining prominence in sustainable jewelry. The brand Monica Krexa, for example, uses aluminum in its pieces, a metal that can be recycled multiple times without losing quality. Additionally, the facility where the jewelry is produced follows the same sustainable concept. That is, the roof is made with adapted biological membranes to attract sunlight and avoid using electric light, and rainwater is collected, filtered, and used to wash all materials used in the production of the pieces.

Community Impact

Sustainability is not only about materials. The brand VireChic, for example, in addition to using banana fiber in the composition of its jewelry, reveals on its website that it empowers women artisans, keeping cultural traditions alive using artisanal skills such as knitting, weaving, and embroidery.

These initiatives not only benefit the communities involved, but also strengthen the bonds between brands and consumers, who value the positive impact of their purchasing choices. Furthermore, reducing waste and demand for new resources adds value to the production chain, promoting a circular and conscious economy.
